Gig Review – Myke Gray & Kim Jennett, Camden Underworld, 23 January 2020

I’ve shot a lot of shows for Myke over the years – with Skin, Red White & Blues and solo. And despite him having already played with Kim on several occasions, I’d managed never to see them performing together. I even missed them by a day at Download last year.

So when the opportunity came up to come along to the Camden Underworld show and shoot the whole set to my heart’s content, I wasn’t going to miss it. And what a treat it was. I had heard so much about Kim’s vocals and live performances and I can only hope we hear much more from her over the years. Here are a few of my favourites, shot, unusually for me, with flash. There was nowhere near enough light for good frames without flash, and it’s something I generally detest using for concerts, but tonight I was so glad I did.

Review – Cirque du Soleil ‘Luzia’, Royal Albert Hall, 11 January 2020

I’ve shot several of the Cirque du Soleil press nights at the Royal Albert Hall in recent years. I find Cirque mesmerising to watch and nearly as difficult to shoot. It all looks so atmospheric and at times the acrobats and artists move almost too fast to capture them sharp. It requires all the same skills as concert photography whilst being something quite different. It certainly keeps you on your toes, constantly tinkering with shutter speeds to get the effect you’re after.

We are very lucky, they put us in the best seats in the house so that we have the best possible vantage point for photography. Anyway, here are a few of my favourite shots.
