This was the first show held at the former Hammersmith Apollo since it’s £multi-million refurbishment. It opened tonight as the newly crowned Eventim Apollo, but I’m afraid I’ll stick to calling it the Hammersmith Apollo if you don’t mind but I have to say they have done a stunning job of the restoration.
The show was fully seated which meant there was no pit. We were allowed to shoot from anywhere along the sides which actually wasn’t as bad as I thought it might have been. Down at the front we were effectively in the far edge of the normal pit, and a bit further back, the 300mm f/2.8 lens really came in to its own for tight shots at nicer angles. All in all it was a very straight forward shoot. I assume that if she comes back to tour larger venues in future with some stage production (there was nothing to speak of really tonight) then photographers may well get relegated to distant mixing desks so it was worth catching this show.
